In New York, how long can you drive without a license plate?

I'm about to buy a $700 car, but I want to go to Massachusetts right away. As in, one or two business days after purchasing the car.

- Is there a deadline to how long I can drive without a license plate?

- If there is, before that deadline, would I be allowed to drive on highways or interstates?

- If I get caught driving without a license plate, what are my chances of getting off the hook if I tell them that I just bought the car and I'll register it as soon as I get to Massachusetts?

Thank you very much

  1. Chances are pretty good they would let you off of the hook if you could show the bill of sale and show that you have insurance on it.

  2. Under no conditions can you legally drive that way. You are taking a big chance.

  3. get temporary plates from dmv good for 30 days

  4. Get a temp plate.
