  1. I live in Ohio.  Frankly, I can't figure out what you mean when you say that he "shouldn't have to pay medical insurance" because he's in school.

If you could elaborate on that point a little, it might help you get a clear answer.

Either way, its unlikely he'll be able to get any money back.  He received the service (having the insurance policy), therefore the insurer would not be under any obligation to repay any money.

  2. Generally, no.

Premiums are paid and insurance is provided.  If he has no other medical insurance, it would be very foolish of him to stop paying the premiums and go without insurance.  If he's in school, the school often offers a very reasonably priced medical insurance plan for the duration of the time that he's a student.

He should probably seek the advice of a competent financial advisor to determine the best options, but going without insurance is just asking for trouble.  One car accident or broken bone can set you back quite a bit without insurance.

  3. Why in the world do you think you shouldn't have to pay for medical insurance just because you're in school?  It's certainly not FREE!!!

No, you don't get your money back.  If he had used it, they would have paid.  It's like a lottery ticket - just because your number doesn't come up, doesn't mean you get a refund.

  4. "When you're in school you shouldn't have to be paying medical insurance."  Where did you come to that conclusion?
