I know that it means the person did not start but what could be the reasons for that? I've seen it a fair few times and am really interested to know.

  1. Did Not Start.

The swimmers often have races close to each other, so they have to choose between the races and sometimes "dns" in the race. It could also be because of injury or simply because they were ill or something like that. There could be hundreds of reasons why they don't start! It depends on the situation... =)

  2. Saving them self's for another race. Knew they wouldn't finish in the top three places.
