Question:

In OpenOffice Writer, is there a way to make only some pages have columns, headers, etc. while others don't?

For example, I want the first page to be a normal page, with no columns, just a big part of text. Then, the next few pages I want to have two columns, like a newspaper article. Then the next pages I want to have the same as the first page. Is this possible?

Yes, that IS the way I have to have it formatted, in that order.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Easy to do. In fact, you don't even have to start a new page, but as you want to, here's how.

Type your text on the first page.

Insert a manual page break (Insert -> Manual Break, and choose the option for Page Break, click OK)

On the new page, Insert -> Section... and choose the Columns tab. Then choose how many columns you want etc., then click OK. Now you have your newspaper columns (snaking columns).

Inserting the section this way leaves a default paragraph after it. Move your cursor down to that line, then insert another page break.

    That's it.

You can insert as many sections of as many columns as you want, and always have the last paragraph be the default page, so you can have a mixed page of columns or normal.
