In Oregon, is it a requirement to know how to swim?

Hi, I'm moving to Oregon soon, and I'm trying to find out info. Could some1 tell me if it's a requirement to know how to swim?

  1. There certainly is no law that requires that you know how to swim, but I believe most Oregonians, especially children, can. The reasoning is simple - there is enough water in the western part of the state so that it just makes sense to know how to swim. On the south coast, most schools teach swimming in the late spring. It's not as popular on the dryer eastern portion of the state.

    The only place where swimming skills would be required would be for occupations such as SCUBA divers or life guards.

    Oregon does have a laws regarding carrying enough life jackets for all passengers on a boat. But we don't require you know how to swim or that you must wear the life jacket. It's certainly recommended.
