The tenants have lived in the unit for three years. Their lease is over in May 2009. How many days prior to that end date do they need to be notified that the landlord will not be signing another lease with them?

  1. Hi good question, most landords have to give written notice of  not renewing the tenants agreement 30 - 60 days prior to the date. It should be written in their agreement they signed when they first moved into the unit. but if their lease has actually already finished they dont really have no leg to stand on sorry, the landlords only have to send them a letter stating when they want them out. i hope i have helped...

  2. Usually its 30 days, but it depends on what the lease says. Laws matter to an extent but what it really comes down to is the contract 2 people signed.

  3. none.  A one year lease ends at the end of the year.  Neither party is under any obligation to renew, unless the lease itself has a term providing for notice.

  4. I think you have to give them a month's notice. Good luck with that!

  5. In your particular lease either party can choose not to renew the lease by providing a sixty day notice prior to the lease term ending.  If you feel that the notice does not give you enough time to find another place, ask the landlord in writing for an additional thirty days.  Keep in mind, though, that he does not have to agree to the additional time.
