Question:

In Palin's Speech Last Night, She Compared 'Hockey Moms' to Pit Bulls. What Did She Mean?

Was she trying to say that Hockey Moms are misunderstood? Was she saying that there is a public misperception of the Hockey Mom, and that they're really not as defensive, and viscious as the "liberal media" makes them out to be?

Or, alternatively, was she playing off of the stereotype that Pit Bulls are vicious, overly protective animals; and have a very similar temperment to moms who have children that play hockey?

  1. I'm fairly certain she was playing to the stereotype. Why wouldn't she? She's a backwoods baby machine who thinks shooting wolves from planes is good sport, wants to delist the Polar Bear so she can drill their habitat, and was too busy being president of the Wasilla PTA to teach her daughter about birth control.

  2. Amen! To Loki's answer!!! LOL...my sentiments exactly!

  3. Probably option two.

Palin hates everything with fur, dogs, cats, wolves, polar bears, grizzlies, everything.

I personally avoid her at all costs. I'd rather watch MTV for six hours than listen to her talk.

ADD> Loki, you need to come with a warning. That was great!

ADD2> Here is the quote in context followed with an explanation via the news: Palin had special smiles for the conventioneers waving "Hockey Moms for Palin" signs. "I gotta love the hockey moms," the first-term governor said. "You know what they say about the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."

  4. That they should be banned... like certain nutjob Republicans.

(For the record, I don't think Pits should be banned...

What's with the Republican Pit Bull comments anyway...  Bush once said he was a "Pit Bull on the pant leg of opportunity". http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/pieh... )

  5. its the lip stick

  6. I suspect she meant that they are tenacious, stubborn, like pits.

It's a common conception of pits, not always with a negative connotation and I doubt Palin meant to insults pits - or hockey moms.   She's running for office, not trying to alienate people.

  7. I think she simply meant, they are tenacious and don't take c**p from anyone.

  8. I'm a former Hockey big time mom and I don't know what to make of her statement.

Hockey even for kids is a tough sport.  You have to put up with a lot of stuff not only with the kids but the parents as well.

I was not vicious or overly protective of my son while he played Hockey.

I'm hoping she meant that in a tough situation you need a tough exterior but still keep a clear head.

LOL  I like Loki's interpretation much better!

  9. I think she was referring to herself (a hockey mom).  She said the difference between the two was "lipstick".  She inferred that although she's a woman, she's able, tenacious, and fearless in facing her detractors, comparing that to a pit bull.   A pretty poor analogy on her part I think, but that's the point she was trying to make.   Doesn't help the pit bull much.
