  1. Yes and no......

  2. No

  3. There are certian skills which are important for each position in rugby (eg. speed if you are a winger, kicking and passing skills if you are a fly half, height or jumping ability if you are a lock etc), but generally the main 'skill' you need to play any position in rugby is intelligence and a knowledge of the game. Look at Matt Giteau of thw Wallabies...he has exceptional skills, but is not overly big or strong. He has become one of the world's best players using his brains more than his physical size

  4. I don't think its the size as such, but the power and strength.  The bigger you are, the more power you have behind you to make the crunching tackles etc, and if the size is muscle - then you have the strength.  Size and skill are often interrelated.  If you are big, you are less likely to be fast or have good handling skills - so can't be a back....  If you are small you are more likely to have those skills - so more likely to be a back, and of course you need the strength and power that comes with size to be a forward.

  5. i dont think that size has anything to do with playing ability - although it does help, we have a prop whos 6"4 and weighs 19 stone and he's next to a 5"6 hooker who only weighs 13

on the other hand we have a 6"3 machine on the wing who weighs 15 stone but he's as quick as lightening and strong as a bull

one of our scrum halves is about 4"10 but he is extremely speedy and has a very strong tackle

i think you may be suited to wing forward - flanker because that needs speed to the breakdown as well as superior rucking skills and mediocre handling skills but still being able to make a tackle if nesecsary

    hope this helps

and good luck with ur team

  6. In some positions size matters i guess, i'm a second line number 5 lock, im 6'3 and 170 pounds.. i also do line-outs since im tall, so yes sometimes size does matter, but not all the time.
