Question:

In Rugby World Cups, do you think appeals should be introduced for knockout matches in the world cup?

After the debacle of the New Zealand – France refereeing, do you think something needs to be done regarding a team’s right to appeal a referee ruling or mistake.

In tennis they recently introduced this and it has made the game a lot fairer for the players and more enjoyable for the spectator. It also highlighted the high incidence of human error.

Maybe something like two appeals per side per game. If one side thinks a forward pass has occurred they can have it reviewed by the TMO and overturned if an error has occurred. After all, the TMO is supposed to be there to adjudicate on things the referee can’t see or judge correctly.

  1. Best thing Ive heard since sliced bread.

Yes THATS SO TRUE! The IRB thinking that their refs are perfect is just obvious neglect. Umpires PROVEN WRONG almost 1 every 5 times should be indication enough that human error is BIG!

  2. Sorry, but that's absolutely ludicrous. Using the TMO already slows the game down unbearably - the game was around for well over a century without resort to this nonsense. One of the central tenets of Rugby is respect for the match officials - this is already being eroded and anything that challenges that authority should be strenuously resisted. I simply refuse to accept that there are "bent" referees in rugby ... call me naive if you like but I am happier being that than bitter and twisted. It's only recently that neutral referees became the norm.

  3. No I don't think so! It will make this Game Boring!

The IRB should only liase with Referees and tell them that if they make an unnecessary ruling....their IRB Referee Certificate will be suspended untill further Notice....lol

Come on give them a break! True Champions accept Defeat be it a Referee's fault or the Teams...just accept Defeat!

The ABs should have known that a lot of teams are gunning for the Cup and they should have played a winning Game Plan and not a 'Cat and Mouse' one!

  4. sounds like a good idea they have it in american football to but a video ref cant actually rule on a forward pass because of the camera angles a better example would be the luke mccalister sinbinning when jauzion cleary took a dive but hes from france a soccer crazy nation

  5. Well they traian referees to make decisions on the spot and sometimes they make mistakes, but the problem with that match was they put an inexperienced ref on for one of the most important games of the RWC that was the first problem the second was that he was english and the winner of the game he was refing had to play his home team, and honestly which team would want to play the all blacks????

  6. Seems like a good idea, but Aussies and AB's will milk it and this could then slow up and ruin a good game!

  7. No this will be used by everyteam to try and get an advantage

AS i understand it the linesmen in this comp were instructed to not interfere if they saw something amiss

In most cames I have seen over recent years the linemen can bring possible infringements to attention of Ref

Use the linesmen to assist Ref. But it is still Refs call

    Hey Redzonec

We accepted we lost at end of game

The average Kiwi accepts we lost, the reason is irrelevant

    France Won, end of story

Dont mistake comments thru media as representing us real Kiwis

  8. I think it's a terrible idea.

    1. Almost every pass made in rugby is a forward pass when the trajectory of the ball is analysed on video so what exactly would you define as a forward pass?

    2. Forward passes are naturally difficult to spot, particularly in the centre of the field.

    3. At 13-0 up at half time how can you possibly blame the referee for NZ's loss?

    4. New Zealand lost the game due to their employment of poor tactics. The brain is as much a weapon as the body on a rugby field and the All Blacks were out-thought and out-fought by France last Saturday.
