In Rugby - why is a Garry Owen so called? Is it after a player or the Club in Limerick?

Interesting answers but which is right - garryowen RFC down the road from me - or WRU in Wales (where I come from)

  1. it is called after garryowen rfc, a club in limerick. its is called this because because when garryowen played matches, they used the up and under so much that it became known as a 'garryowen'
