Lokomotiv Moscow defender, Alberto Zapater, shared his thouhgts on the ongoing Russian Premier League campaign after Slaven Bilic replaced former coach, Jose Couceiro, at the helm.
The Spanish stopper believes that the Moscow-based club needs to work harder if they are to win silverware this season.
The fact that the Lokhi failed to secure UEFA Europa League qualification last season saddens the 27-year-old Spanish defender, who believes that success is just around the corner.
Zapater went on to hail the club’s decision to appoint Bilic as the manager of the team, admitting that the club has taken the right decision.
The former Sporting Lisbon star, meanwhile, insisted that the Russian top division is getting more difficult every year, revealing that there are 7-8 teams that are playng at the same level.
Zapater insisted that Lokomotiv are playing quality football at the moment and gave example of their opening day 3-2 win against Mordovia Saransk on Friday. He praised Bilic’s training methods, revealing that the training has never
been so exciting and fruitful.
“I think that in Russia, there are about 7-8 teams that are about equal in class. However, it depends on who and how each team start the championship. But I must say we had a good start under Bilic.”
“We will play approximately 30 league games. I think we have every chance to succeed. The team has a certain foundation.” The Supercopa de Espana winner was quoted as saying.
