  1. Many homeschoolers don't even think of grade level.  It is not unusual for someone to work at multi levels at the same time.

Even though my son is a relunctant learner, there are many college classes online that are of interest to him.   He listens to the lectures and does research on specific things that he finds interesting.

I think the social aspect is one of the great things about homeschool.   Our children are not limited to being only friends with people their own age.

  2. Nah, not at all. =]

Oi, I'm 15. Just about to go into my sophmore year... If I go. If I don't have to, I'm going to go on and get my GED so I can get to college a few years faster. I'll be the youngest one there, I'm sure. Don't worry about it. =]

  3. Do you mean you're home-educated and going into 9th grade? This is, after all, the homeschooling board.

If so: No, it won't be a problem unless you make it one; actually, that probably goes for school as well.

Actually I suspect you are (or certainly have been at some point) at school; the fact that you even think your age might 'be a problem with new relationships' is an attitude very much born of conventional schooling.

I'm one of those kids Janis mentions who has ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what 'grade' I should be in - I *think*, age-wise, I should be in Year 10; anyway, simultaneously being 'too old' and 'too young' for my age level has never caused a problem for me simply because neither I, nor my parents, nor my mates, make it one. There is no reason why you shouldn't be the same.

Indeed, having the ability and permission to make and sustain relationships with whoever I want, of any age, is one of the big pluses of home-ed.

Anyway once you get to college/university (if that's what you want to do), there are likely to be people of all ages from 15 - 90 in your classes, all managing relationships with each other, so mixing with kids older than you'll be good practice and give you a head start when you do have to socialise and study alongside people of all ages instead of just confining yourself to the narrow and artificial range found in schools.

  4. no theres no problem in 9th grade you should be bout 13 or 14. i should kna i just got out of ninth grade and i was the oldest kid so there aint nothing wrong and just to let you kna was im so old in these grades cuz of family problems the effects school alot but good luck in 9th grade. high school is suppose to be the best years of your life

  5. I am going to start 9th grade in the Fall as well. I am 14 and I am turning 15 a week or two before I start school. I'll be older than most of the kids probably.

It won't be too much of a problem. You may be a little less mature, but there will always be some people who are really immature despite their age. The only thing is, you won't be able to begin drivers training until later on...probably Junior year. Keep in mind that high school isn't ALL about relationships. I'm sure you'll be fine in making friends. Concentrate on homework, sports (if you play any), friends, family, and just having a great time! High school seems like a BIG deal, but trust me...I've had two older brothers go through it and tell me about it. It's not that big of a deal. New school. New opportunities to make friends and join clubs. You're a little young, but it's too late to hold back now, right? If you or your parents thought you were too young, they should have held you back in elementary.

You'll be fine. Most of my friends from junior high will be 13. I'm sure they're thinking the same thing as you. Anyways, good luck!!

  6. Only if you make it one.
