In Texas, how do I make a dirt bike street legal?

I am looking to make my crf 450x and my xr 400 streel legal so i can save gas when i go back to school. Does anybody know the requirements for the equipment or have first hand knowledge of the process? Any information would be a great help. Thank You

  1. Short answer:  You can't.

    Long answer:  You can't because it is not EPA complient, and not DOT approved for street use, therefore it even if it has a title, you will not be able to register it.

    On a second note:  NEVER get a motorcycle strictly for fuel economy, with the excption of a 50 to 150cc scooter.  It just won't work out that way.

    I ride for pleasure, commuting and then fuel economy.  Flat fact, that is how it is.


  2. You need to get it titled for street use so I would start asking Q's at your registry. You will also need to get it inspected so your gonna need a horn, blinkers, mirror, DOT tires etc. whatever your state requires. Don't forget the insurance company needs proper paperwork too.
