In Texas Hold em, what is a side pot?

When I play texas hold em and someone goes all in, there usually is a side pot created and most of the time it just goes to the main pot winner. what is the use of the side pot?

  1. After a player goes "all in," the other players can continue to bet against each other.  The side pot is on the side because it is not available to the player that went all-in, it is only available to the winner of the side bet.


  2. A side-pot is betting exclusively to those still in the hand that have money to wager. While one or more people may be all-in and unable to bet more, the others still in can bet against each other and even if they lose the main pot to one of the people all-in, they can still win the side-pot. The people all-in cannot win the side pot though.
