There is an ace hi flush on the board. 4 players all stay in each has 1 spade in his hand. Is it a split pot because nobody can beat the ace on the board or does the player with the highest spade in his hand win?

  1. You are always playing the best five card hand, a flush is made of all five cards, not just the ace.  If any of the player's spade can improve the board, the highest spade will take the pot.  If no one can improve the board with their spade, then it would be a split pot.

  2. If the 4 players cannot play their spades, it's a split. if any spades can be played, the highest spade flush to the last card wins.

  3. All players in this case have an ace high flush, but one player has a flush card.  If it can beat the board, then he wins, otherwise it is split.

    For example:

    A Q T 8 3 (spades) Board

If the player has a 2 of spades, it does not beat any board card, so it's still split.

If the player has the 4 of spades, it is better than the three and it would play.

Remember a flush is the BEST FIVE CARDS so if you hold a card better than the cards on the board, it plays.  If it is worse, it does not.

  4. As long as the one in their hand is higher than one of the other one-- he takes the pot. If the best hand is on the board it is split.

  5. Whoever has the highest spade and it is higher than the lowest spade on the board takes the pot down, the only senerio for a split pot is that nobody has a spade higher than the lowest card on the board.

  6. To elaborate ...

Let's say the board is AKJ97, all spades.

    If ......

    Player 1 has 2s

    Player 2 has 6s

    Player 3 has 5s

    Player 4 has 4s ...

Then it's a split pot, because they're all playing the AKJ97 flush.

    BUT If ......

    Player 1 has 2s

    Player 2 has 10s

    Player 3 has Qs

    Player 4 has 4s ...

Then Player 3 wins the pot, because he's playing AKQJ9 flush.

    Hope this helps.

  7. best rule of thumb is if no one can improve the board then the board plays.
