  1. Are pay dates weekly or biweekly?  Most companies hold back one paycheck.

So if you are paid every other week you may wait as long as a month for your first paycheck. If you started in the middle of a pay period and it is biweekly, you wait 3 weeks; if they hold one pay check.

If it is weekly you may have to wait two weeks.

I worked for one company that paid on the 1st and 15th.

It is the companies option; talk to your payroll dept. No one can tell a company how often they can pay you or if they hold one paycheck back. Most companies do this if you have uniforms, keys to offices, vehicles, etc.

If they do not pay you at the agreed upon time then you have an issue and you can file a grievance with the state labor dept. They will schedule a hearing date and you and your employer will be required to attend. You will state your grievance and they will respond. Then the hearing committee will determine the outcome. If it is found in your favor the company will be told to issue you a check for the determined amount. If they refuse the state will intercede funds from their account and send you a check.

    I hope this helps.
