Tour de France commentators keep referring to "GC" when they talk about the Tour and the riders, but they never explain what "GC" stands for. What does it mean?

  1. GC stands for "General Category".  The leader of the GC is the person with the overall minimum elapsed time in the race through all the stages.  Hope this helps.


  2. It stands for General Classification.  It basically refers to the main competition within the Tour (the rider with the lowest time at the end of the race is the winner of the GC).
