On each team, I believe there are six people on the court at once, but why is one person on the team always dressed in a different uniform color?

  1. This person is the libereo (i spelled that wrong I think) anyway it means that they are a defensive player only....if you are one you don't have to have an official sub when the game is stopped or whatever. You cannot usually serve but some coaches will have you serve. Thats about it

  2. Either that person is a captin or a labaro. a labaro is a defensive specialest in the back row. ( a person who is excellent at bumping or passing)

  3. Not always (it depends on the skill level of the team).  If there is a person who is wearing a different colored jersey, they are called a libero, and they specialize in defense.  The different colored jersey shows that they can go in at any point during the game (without stopping the game) for any player in the back row.

  4. The different color jersey is worn by the libero so the officials can identify him/her.

  5. Everyone else gave good answers. except one thing.

    A Libero may serve.

But they can only serve once in the rotation.

This is in effect in high school and college.

The fact that they are wearing a different color jersey is just so that the refs and scorekeeper(libero tracker) can easily monitor them.

  6. This person is called the "libero."  They are strictly a back row player and they cannot serve.  They can sub in for any person who is in the back row, instead of subbing in for only one person during one game like all of the rest of the players.  They wear a different colored shirt so the referee can keep track of this player to make sure they don't go to the front row or serve.

  7. they are the libero, they are very good at digging and most of the time cant serve so they only play the back row

  8. In 1998 the libero player was introduced internationally, the term meaning free in Italian; the NCAA introduced the libero in 2002.[14] The libero is a player specialized in defensive skills: the libero must wear a contrasting jersey color from his or her teammates and cannot block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net height. When the ball is not in play, the libero can replace any back-row player, without prior notice to the officials. This replacement does not count against the substitution limit each team is allowed per set, although the libero may be replaced only by the player whom they replaced. The libero may function as a setter only under certain restrictions. If she/he makes an overhand set, she/he must be standing behind (and not stepping on) the 3-meter line; otherwise, the ball cannot be attacked above the net in front of the 3-meter line. An underhand pass is allowed from any part of the court.

The libero is, generally, the most skilled defensive player on the team. There is also a libero tracking sheet, where the referees or officiating team must keep track of who the libero subs in and out for. There may only be one libero per set (game), although there may be a different libero in the beginning of any new set (game).

Furthermore, a libero is not allowed to serve, according to international rules, with the exception of the NCAA women's volleyball games, where a 2004 rule change allows the libero to serve, but only in a specific rotation. That is, the libero can only serve for one person, not for all of the people for whom she goes in.

  9. That person is called the libero who is a defensive specialist, who comes into the backrow only. A lot of people are saying that they cannot serve, but I'd like to pointout that the rule has been changed and in some cases, such as college volleyball, they are now able to serve.

  10. its the libero its a person who always is in the backrow and can't serve.
