  1. yes get knee pads. then you can dive for the ball and it will show the coaches that you are passionate about the sport. and for serving. make sure you hit the ball in the middle, have a nice low toss. point your feet the way you want the ball to go and then just swing and make sure you follow through so it will go all the way

  2. Yes, you do need kneepads!  If you don't wear kneepads and you have to dive for a ball you could really hurt your knees, and you take the change of even braking them!  It is extremely important that you do get some kneepads!

And to answer your second question; find a wall that is OK to bounce a ball against and then stand about 10 feet away from the wall....go just like you would serve the ball on the court, but don't hit it too hard, just hard enough that it comes back to you!  This will really strengthen your serves!

  3. I definitely would wear them. There's alot of falling!

As far as the serving question maybe your hitting too high on the ball when you serve. Try hitting a little lower, youknow. To make it go farther. IDK!

Best of luck to you!!! Hope you make it kid!

  4. I'm 14, almost 15 and I played on varsity this year at a 4A school, I'm about 5'7" but I guess I jump high so I play right side hitter/digger.  I have knee pads but I don't wear them a lot because if you are actually diving right, you should not be landing on your knees.  So you don't NEED them, but I suggest you get them because they help out a lot for beginners.  And about making your serve stronger, lift weights, don't go real heavy at first but lift, and make sure you get in tons of practice.  I serve about 50 + per practice.  Also toss only as high as you can reach, no higher and don't take more than a step and keep an open hand.  Just remember and practice the right teqnique and you'll get it someday!  Good luck at tryouts!

  5. i would get kneepads to be safe,. but technically if your dive is correct you shouldnt need them but you never know what would happen. i would get them so your knees dont look like mine. mine look like ive been through a war,

  6. For girls: Definitely, we ALWAYS use kneepads, and even WITH them I still get bruises all over my knees. Girls dive a LOT

For Boys: Not always, the libero does most of the time, but no one else.

    And for your serve

Underhand: Hold the ball in front of you with the hand you DON'T write with. Hold it steady and take your other hand, swing it back a little and hit it with a fist (Underhanded) Don't throw/toss the ball before you hit it

Overhand: Either one hand or two hand toss it, take a step with your opposite foot (I'm a lefty, so I step with my right) and hit it with an open hand.

Underhand is MUCH easier, but overhand has more power

  7. Defintely buy them before tryouts. It will make it look like you know what you are doing. Serving is pretty easy, if you are doing underhand make sure you bring your hand all that way back and don't let go of the ball before you hit it. It's hard to explain without showing you. For overhand, just throw the ball up in the air and hit it as hard as you can, while making sure you don't hit it toward the floor. This one is better because the speed of it makes it hard to hit on the other side, however it is much harder.

  8. Two many questions at once.  To the first question: You don't need them if you know how to dive correctly, but it would be wise to have them just in case.  You will be able to play in a game without them unless the ref. decides that you are out of uniform.  Double check with the coach.  Afterall, you should avoid being on your knees anyway!

  9. Many people think you need kneepads, but the truth is, if you can dive properly, you don't need them. To dive properly, your arms hit the ground first, then pull yourself through. Like a penguin slide. But dont slide too far.

Practice serving against a wall or something.

  10. you definitely need kneepads!  and to make your serve stronger, pretend like you are high fiving the wall in front of you, it works!

  11. Absolutely, if you don't want floor burns, broken knees, and scratches. Serve, (this is right-handed if you're left-handed do opposite) step with left foot toss ball with left hand hit with right hand. Try to do that in one motion.

  12. I hate to say it... but you should buy a pair of kneepads.

These are really reliable and comfy... they were the kind i got the first time i bought any:

    [i prefer the black]

And as for your serve-- You will need to practice. Your serve will get stronger with time... You can ask a trainer at your gym about which weight machines will help build a strong arm for an overhand serve. But the greatest thing i can say... is........ lol.... GET YOUR TOSS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! Make contact with the ball a little out from your body (not when your arm is straight up, but a little down at the shoulder) and still ABOVE your head. Swing through (I stick out my thumb after contact to make sure it brushes my upper leg). Your arm should be bent a TEENY bit... not too much. And remeber to keep your hand big and hit with the heel of it. Topspin is great in a game, but you'll have better luck serving a floater. Watching a good server will help you.

Good luck at tryouts. If you work hard and congratulate your teammates, your coach is more likely to put you on the team. All coaches love hard workers!!! (I made the most advanced team at my vball camp this summer... not by being the best by any means, but, by working hard and hustling... running and talking to my teammates. By being almost abnoxiously loud calling the ball and really tying to improve. You'll get the most out of your week too.) Have fun!!!!! And never let a ball drop! lol.

  13. YES!!! you should buy the cheap few times use just to keep your knees safe and unhurt and if you make the team buy the better useful ones.  Good Luck for Try-outs!

  14. yes you need knee pads.  without them, in a game, u won't b able 2 play.  to make yur serve stronger, u have 2 follow through  (finish yur arm swing)  same w/spiking

  15. i would get knee pads, i would get them before the tryouts. i play bball so i can't really answer ur serving question. sorry

  16. YES...u should ..these are a list of reasons why...

1.you will have a better chance making the team

    2.good for your knees
