  1. It still counts. Your team gets the point and you get to serve again.

  2. if you are playing rally scoring (which is typical), it is a let serve, and play continues...

if you are playing the old way of scoring, the other team gets the ball

  3. It's a net-ball.  No points are awareded, but service changes to the other team.

  4. it counts

    yay!

you just got a point. :]

  5. Dan, thanks for the intro.

However, this is another one of those weird situations where all the rules are the same.  NFSHSA (junior high and high school), NCAA (women's college), USAV (club) and FIVB (international) rules are all the same.

The ball hitting the net on the serve remains in play.  If it does not go over, it is a side out in favor of the receiving team.  If it goes over, it is still in play and the receiving team must play it if it is going to land in bounds.

  6. it's called a let shot or a tape shot.  and generally people atleast try to pass it.  but its a good serve and is generally an ace, esp. on high school levels

  7. That would be a question for gordonmorrison, as different rules might interpret it differently.

Recent international rule and most indoor leagues would treat it as a valid serve and keep the ball in play without calling anything... I know gordonmorrison can tell you that there are exceptions.

  8. Nothing.  This is a good serve.  It is called a "let serve".  All it means is if the serve hits the net but goes over, it's still in play and good.

  9. The serve hits the net then it will be a foul and the server will get to serve again

  10. It's just a plain old serve.  It is still played, as long as no other player touched it before it went over the net.  GO SERVING!!
