  1. Usually when serve receive the coach would ask the DS to stay for one round (till the ball goes the opponent's side) before getting switched to the middle back. This will help making the first pass without worrying too much about switching positions. If the DS is very sure that the serve is not coming to her, she can start moving towards her center back spot without waiting for the ball to go across. This could change when one of your back row teammate is not so good passing... the DS would have to cover that teammate as well.

When not in serve receive, as soon as your server hit the serve, DS should be switched to the middle back.

  2. I play DS and when I serve recieve in the middle-back position, I stand right along the key of the basketball hoop (if you have the basketball hoop lines there). Otherwise, stand 2 1/2-3 feet in front of the volleyball court's back endlines. That way, the two other players that stand slightly in front of me on my left and right can get the balls on either side of me. Then I can take care of the deep serves and the ones that come straight in front of me. (Don't be afraid to dive and save the balls that come a little shorter in front of you. That's our job: to save the hardest balls.)

  3. Every team is slightly different from another when it comes to serve recieve positions. You are most likely anywhere in the back. Middle, left, right. Im assuming mostly MIDDLE back.

  4. You should stay in the middle back position!! ;]

  5. it depends on the rotation but your normally always middle back.  and your job is tips, free balls and diggs, which you always try to get to the setter or where the setter should be
