In WW2, did pilots fly airplanes in storms? (bad weather; ex, lightning)?

  1. Yes, they did.  Basic instrument flight techniques and radio navigation aids had been developed by then, and all pilots were trained to use those.


  2. Sure and a lot of those that are still missing disappeared in bad weather.....It was nothing like now.

  3. Yep. There was even a class on thunderstorm penetration. Something that is all but prohibited in all aspects of flying today. I used to have an old VHS copy of a film they would watch on this.

  4. They did. They usually tried to avoid them though by flying in the stratosphere.
