it not a footnote but I want to have my name on every page of this report I am typing without messing with the formatting. Isn't there a way to have it automatically placed wherever you want on the page?

  1. A header should be in insert insert header type what ya want and it will be there : )

  2. you type in your info in the header box, and it should come up on the top of every page.

  3. If you want it on the top of every page - edit header

    If you want it on the bottom of every page - edit footer

    When you used edit headers and footers, you can switch between the two by using the buttons.

  4. Put it in your header. Depending on what version you're using, it might  be under View-Header/Footer.

    After that, you'll get a section for your header. Just type your name there, then click on Close Header.

  5. Although it isn;t a footer;

    Go to headers and footers. There you can set up page numbers to automatically update and include any other details, such as your name.

  6. Here's how

    In Word versions earlier than Word 2007 (Vista):

    1. Click the View->Header and Footer menu item.

    2. Edit the header that appears to suit yourself.  When you're done, get back to the normal text either by closing the Header and Footer menu or by double-clicking in the normal text area.

    In Word 2007:

    1. Click the Insert tab of the Ribbon.

    2. Click the Header item.

    3. Select a header style.  Blank is a good one.

    4. Edit the header that appears to suit yourself.  When you're done, get back to the normal text either by cliciing Close Header and Footer on the Ribbon or by double-clicking in the normal text area.

    Hope that helps.
