In Yu-Gi-Oh, there is a difference between negate and destroy. So, if I use "Spell Shield Type-8"?

on a spell card would it destroy it to? Since it says negate the 'activation' and effect of a spell card. Or would it simply put the opponents spell card face down again?

  1. Negate basically means the effect of the affected card is negated or in other words it has no effect.  Destroy and negate are two totally different terms.  If your opponent activates a Spell card, you can negate AND destroy it with Spell Shield Type-8 (choosing the appropriate effect of course).

  2. Try this:

I don't think that the card would return face down though. Unless otherwise specified, (cards like Malfunction) the negated card is sent to the graveyard.

  3. It would simply put the opponents spell card face down again.

Negate means basically to stop. So the effect of the card is stopped but not destroyed.

Destroy means that the card is sent to the graveyard.

So in your case the opponents card would jus go straight back to being face down.
