I have 45 minutes to write an essay, and I'm unsure of how much in terms of words/pages my teacher will be expecting.

What do you think would be an appropriate length?

  1. The essay should be long enough to cover the subject but short enough to keep it interesting and to keep it from getting dull or monotonous. Good luck!

  2. take a look at this: http://www.ielts-exam.net/index.php?opti...

  3. it depends on the topic and how broad it is. a standard essay must be 5 paragraph, it must be specific or direct to the point and no more beating around the bush. it is better that an essay is short but has acomplete idea or thought rather a long one without sense.

    gud luck.

  4. ok. so, i've had this question like thing before. and people say that it doesnt matter how long it is, it could be three paragraph for all anyone cares. it could be 5 paragraphs, two pages, one page. all of that..doesnt  matter. the only thing that matters in the time essay is that everything is there. that all the information you want to present is clearly in there and details are included. i have done so many sat prep essay questions, which are like..25 mins, and i just stick with the five paragraph format.  sometimes i only do four, but thats when i know all the information i want to write is complete.  length doesnt matter. content does. good luck ^_^

  5. It really depends on the topic. Some topics are more straightforward than others, while some necessitate in depth discussion. During my in class essays this year, I have written between  1.5-3 pages. Length doesn't decide the grade. I've received A's on some shorter writings and B's on longer ones. I would recommend trying to keep your essay to around two pages (front and back of one page). To make sure that your writing flows rather than drags on, jot down the topics of each paragraph and 2 possible examples in each paragraph for about 2-3 minutes. You won't lose much time and you'll become much more organized. Finally, during in class essays, teachers will judge the writing as a 1st rough draft. So don't focus on the introduction and conclusion so much at first; for the intro write 1-2 sentences explicitly stating you thesis, and for the conclusion do anything besides restating your thesis. It's better to leave out a conclusion if your unsure how to do one, just make sure that your language in the final sentence of the last body paragraph indicates that your essay is ending. Anyway, good luck on your essay. It may be tough at first, but after writing them a few times, you'll be able to master the art of speed essay writing.

  6. As long as it takes to clearly, concisely answer the question.  A good teacher knows that one student can say in five paragraphs what it takes another three pages to relay.

You should worry about the QUALITY of what you write, not how long it is!

    Good Luck!!
