  1. For adding or subtracting, just like you write it out:  

    100 + 10% which really does

    100 + (0.1 x 100)

    In other words, it auto-computes the fraction. The order you key things in matters here - you need to enter the number you're adding or subtracting the percentage of first, then "+" or "-". If you try to enter the percentage first you won't get the result you expect.

    For multiplying or dividing, it just shifts the percentage number two decimal places:

    100 x 10%

    becomes

    100 x 0.1

    Here, the order doesn't matter.

    This weirdness of the % key is why many people don't like to use it because it doesn't always do the same thing. Finance types love it, engineers and math majors hate it and tend to do the percentage in their head instead.
