Question:

In a chemistry lab, when do you use protective eyewear vs protective goggles?

I'd say, the more danger you expose yourself to, the more protection you need. But this doesn't seem to suffice. I'd like more expansion for this answer, any ideas?

  1. call me a square but i would always use goggles. you can never tell where a splash may end up or how you may react to something.

  2. Sure, and I always wear eye googles. They used to steam up my google view, but not anymore. It's better and safe even though you are safe. They sell those sunglass type ones, but googles are safer.

  3. You always wear eye goggles, especially when dealing with liquids or fumes. They can get into your eyes and can be damaging.

  4. We always wore goggles in the lab.  Didn't make a t**d what was going on, if you were in the lab you wore goggles.  Why leave anything open to interpretation?

  5. When you loose one out of two of any body part

  6. When fumes are involved (and you will be working with A LOT of those in chemistry) and well as possible splashing, you generally need something that does not allow air to vent through.  Protective goggles that are meant specifically for chemistry have plugs to keep those fumes/liquids out.  It's also why you have eyewash stations in your lab in case someone does not wear their goggles and need to wash the chemicals out of their eyes.
