I choose 'd'.  We see blatant lies on tv all the time, and often with negative impact on our nation.  But if the nature of those lies were to turn towards a unified agenda -on every channel - an agenda towards hate, and falsified broadcasts of people being persecuted, people might be afraid to join together to rebel against the broadcasts, and become too afraid of their own neighbors to dispell fears of what they see on tv.  

Crisis' of food, electric, money, etc, might actually bring people together.  The lies could play on people's insecurities and cut people off from communicating.
