by a certain day and the state's attorney is to respond to the defendant's motion within a prescribed amount of time, what happens when the state does not file an answer at all? I am representing myself as I do not have money for a lawyer. By the way, I am in Illinois.

  1. File a Motion to Compel asking the court to force the state to respond.  The judge will be impressed and the state will look stupid.
