  1. The King of Hearts represents Alexander the Great - King of Macedon. Alexander the Great was one of the most successful military commanders in history, and was undefeated in battle and he was much adored. By the time of his death, he had conquered most of the world known to the ancient Greeks. The “Heart” symbolizes love just like “Spade” stands for honour, “Club” for bravery and “Diamond” for wealth.  The origin of European Playing Cards are highly speculative with Chinese, Indian and Persian heritage all claiming them.  People of all these cultures did not believe in the notion of love. They considered it as a sin. A sin so horrifying that it deserved death. And probably that is why the king is shown with an ax in his head. Even the missing moustache depicts how unaccepted it was even when in those early days moustache was a royal sign. It makes him look less majestic.

  2. Maybe since he's the King of Hearts (romance) he shaved it off for his sweetheart :)

*Edit* I know I wouldn't kiss a girl with a mustache...so maybe his Queen feels the same about him ;)

  3. because he's g*y
