  1. A newspaper is divided into departments, such as local news, sports, International news, entertainment, and several others.

    A column is a story/report written by a journalist, and appearing in one of the sections.

    An editorial is an opinion piece, and can be written by the editorial staff, or by guest columnists who express their opinion on different subjects.
