In a list serv "group" can I make the archived messages for members only and not the public?

management- under group settings click messages- Posting and Archives (Edit) <-- click the edit- scroll to Archive Options and select/ check members- click save changes

Yes.  If it is a Yahoo Group, and you are an owner (or a moderator with the appropriate privileges), then the way to do this is to log in to your Group's web site.  Then click on Management on the left-hand side.  Then click on Messages in the Group Settings section (towards the upper-right-hand corner).  Then click the Edit link next to Posting And Archives.  Then, under Archive Options towards the bottom of the page, select Members instead of Anyone.  Don't forget to click the Save Changes button when you're done.
