  1. Let me start off with total honesty...Learning an instrument will be challenging, no matter what you pick (unless its the recorder of course, which in reality, is for little kids). Yes, it will be challenging, but I promise you, music is the most rewarding thing I have ever experienced. Music is my life and soul. I have learned how to play the flute, clarinet, saxaphone, harp, digeridoo ( an instrument from australia), drums, bass, trumpet and Im working on the french horn and piano.

I would suggest starting with something like drums or guitar, or if you like classical the piano or clarinet. I love the flute and rock music, and its a lot of fun but extremly har, and rewarding

If i were you, I would listen to a classical peice of music (and try to stay awake....I know...its boring!!) and pick out an instrument that you find cool. Look at prices of the instruments and go to your local music store. Whatever floats your boat. I love flute and guitar, so check those out too. Be brave and unique!!! This WILL TAKE TIME, PATIENCE, MONEY, AND SWEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no joke! this is serious buisness

    ALL THE BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!

  2. This is how I answer people that ask me.  I play lots of instruments in different families (some better than others.)

Piano and guitar are easy to play if you know where to put your fingers.  You don't have to worry so much about playing out of tune, but you have to deal with chords that you don't have to play on other instruments.

Woodwinds, for the most part, when you put your fingers down and blow, the note you want comes out.  You have to deal with reeds for all but flute, and reeds tend to be temperamental, but when you master the fingerings, they are moderately easy to play.

Brass is a little bit harder because you only have a few valves (or a slide on the trombone.)  One fingering will give you multiple notes.  You have to combine a fingering with what you do with your lips, and that takes a little more than woodwinds.

String instruments are the most finicky.  You have to deal with strings and bows, they go out of tune more and more often than ww and brass.  You don't have frets or buttons, you have to use your ear much more to play the right note and play it in tune.  Beginners can have tapes to show where notes are, but I think the string family is the toughest for a beginner to learn.

Harp is wicked hard in my opinion.  I took lessons for a few months and quit because I didn't want to put in all the time and effort it would have required.

Percussions varies because there are so many instruments in the family.  And I don't really play any percussion, so I don't feel qualified to discuss.

  3. Keyboard :]

  4. I would say the guitar or piano- unless you want to try something really easy like the kazoo or recorder.  a guitar would probably run cheaper than a piano depending on what kind you are looking at.

EDIT:  Regarding the violin, I just took a strings class at college, and violin was honestly the hardest one I played for me.  The cello was easier, but they are quite a bit more expensive.  The violin wouldn't be much more difficult than a guitar if it wasn't for the bowing.  It takes a while to get used to bowing just one string.  Also, violins don't have fret markings, so it's very difficult to know where to put your fingers for each note.  Don't get me wrong, though- it's definitely possible and it is a great instrument; I now own one ;)

  5. It's different for everyone.  For me, piano was pretty easy to pick up once I learned the basics.  I also have a really good ear, so it was different.  But I cannot for the life of me play guitar.

However, other people find that they can learn a song on guitar as easy as breathing.  It's really a "to each his own" matter.

  6. thats great you want to learn a musical instument...

the violin might be the right one..

my opinion is you should also look at  a piano

i hope this helps you decide!
