  1. if you are experienced with wrestling then you might want to think of taking him down then getting some good hits to the face mostly in the jaw or nose if you have ever watched UFC fighting you'll learn a ton from that but yah don't go agains more than 1 guy if you don't have friends with you.

  2. Do whatever it takes.

  3. In a real fight you would be better off keeping it standing and using you wrestling experience if you get takendown yourself. Of course if you getting the tar beat out of you it may be a good idea to make it a ground fight with you on top.

  4. "is it okay"...

in a REAL FIGHT - everything is OKAY... there are NO RULES.

Personally, I don't think real fights look much like MMA or sparring, or anything of the like. Real fights are usually involving weapons. They are usually planned by one party and can often involve a gang against a loner.

I think going to the ground is bad. However, if a weapon is/can be disarmed, going to the ground may be necessary.

  5. Its preferable to stay standing. Easier to run away if things get bad.

  6. That's why you don't grapple when there is more than one person. Unless you know how to grapple when there are multiple opponents.

  7. Who says you have to go down with a person once you take them down?

  8. try fighting on the pavement with your bjj  i need a good laugh.

  9. I like anti thesis's comment. This is one of the misunderstood parts of Okinawan karate, that we have throws and take downs, but we don't necessarily go down with them. Japanese Ju Jitsu and Judo have many throws and take downs where you don't have to follow them down.

To the person that said self defense is like a MMA fight, obviously you have never been in a real self defense situation. It is nothing like it. A MMA fight is two highly skilled athletes in a sport with a certain rule set. Most street fights are two wanna be's trying to protect their ego. Self defense is survival, pure and simple. It is good to study some ground stuff, if for no other reason then to be able to get back on your feet, or at the very least learn take down defense.

Yes it is legal to take them down, and like was said, there are no rules in self defense, except for little things called laws. The law says you can only respond with equal force, or what is necessary to end or remove yourself from the situation. If somebody shoves me and I winde up breaking his arm, more then likely I am guilty of assault.

Quite honestly the last place I want to go for selfdefensee, not street fighting is to the ground. I prefer to stay standing so I can get away when theopportunityy presents itself.

  10. If you have any wrestling skill or ability, you are better off taking the fight to the ground.  A real fight should be pretty much just like an MMA fight.  If you're better on the ground than your opponent then take it to the ground.  If you're better on your feet than your opponent, keep it standing.

Your "is it ok" phrasing sounds like your asking if someone will think you're a moron if you do, and the answer to that is absolutely NO.  There is nothing wrong with taking a fight to the ground.

  11. Man,in a real fight it is ok to knock your opponent out with a beer bottle, and his buddy.Their is only one way to fight, and that is too win!

  12. Then you better have friends with you to get the guys kicking you off. Never go into a fight alone with a bunch of your opponents friends. Thats just stupid.

  13. hold up a minute. what if your standing and his friend just happens to be walking a long with a baseball bat while your trading punches and hits you in the back. If I am wrestling one guy and one guy alone I will submit him just as fast as some one can knock him out, if he doesn't know grappling. I don't care which art they say is good for multiple attackers. If your sparring partners aren't trying to actually get you and pretty much take you out it won't work. here's some questions for you. what if you are fighting a guy and and his friend "COMES ALONG" and grabs your back and drags you to the ground. will you know how to move on the ground will you know how to break his grab will you be able to get a hold of something and break it to make it a one on one fight again. I have defended myself a few times in the streets, none of which ever went to the ground. Then I saw mma and thought "What If that happened to me?". I wish all martial artist thought that way. There is always the slightest of possibilities. If anything goes in a street fight you need to be prepared for anything and this includes ground. Even if you think it won't happen.

  14. If there's nobody around, then just go for wrestle the guy. But if there's more than one, it's obviously better off keeping it standing. Grab onto weak guys and use it as a shield or even throw it at them and keep attacking.

  15. You have obviously never been in a real fight.

Why do you want to go to the ground?

That is where you want to put your attacker, and where you don't want to be.

  16. Always have back up but dont wuss out and have them come in if your losing, their for you oppoent's friends.

Yea taking him down is fair but i wouldnt, stay standing its easier to dodge a hit and you can put more power into your hits
