  1. L = W/2 + 3

    LW = 56

    (W/2 + 3)W = 56

    (W^2)/2 +3W - 56 = 0

    W = 8 and -14(reject)


  2. a = l x w

    56 = (3 + 1/2w)w

    Now you have to distribute the w

    And this is the point where I draw a blank...I'm guessing

    56 = 3w + 1/2 w (2nd power)

    Then solve for w
