In a resume....What sounds better?

I'm talking about working with mental retarded children. should i say that or kids with special needs?

  1. Many years ago there was a move toward 'People First' Language  it was putting people before their disability rather than identifying them as Autistic, or Learning Disabled.  It became students with....... a little more cumbersome but I think the philosophy behind it is a good one.


  2. I'd say children with disabilities, or children with cognitive impairments.

  3. Say this:

    I would love to spend my time helping special needs children.

    and add on to it so on so on.

  4. You would be better off with special needs for most purposes, especially if you were sending it to people who do not work in the field and might find the term offensive.  

    If it was for a job specifically working with mentally retarded children, it would probably be better to say that directly.

  5. Definitely use "special needs".
