Your question crystallizes what can be seen as both a bane and a boon in same s*x marriages (when compared with opposite s*x marriages): The lack of gender roles.

From what I've seen with people I know who have married, it's entirely their call. Some people choose to hyphenate alphabetically, some choose to keep their own names, others do so on the basis of age. Whatever the decision, it isn't structured based on some outdated notion of "a woman belongs to a man" (and therefore in an opposite s*x marriage, the woman must take the man's name).
