  1. The (5) is the score in the tiebreak. Serena won 7 points to 5 in the breaker.

  2. The number in () refers to the losers score in the tiebreak. The way scores are listed in print, the winner's score is on the left and the loser's on the right.  So for instance, the player who won the tiebreak, won it 7-5.  The set score is 7-6 (5) because the (5), like the 6, is what the loser scored.  Because a tiebreaker has to be won with an advantage of 2 points, the loser's score tells us what the winner scored.  If you see a score like 7-6 (10), this tells us that the loser scored 10 points in losing the tiebreak, and hence the winner MUST have scored 12 points.

  3. If the number is 5 or less, it means the winner won 7 points in the tie breaker since you need a win a minimum of 7 points in the tie breaker with a difference of atleast 2.

If however, the number is 6 or more, it means the winner of the tie-breaker scored exactly 2 more points than the loser. So, if the number is say 10, it means the winner got 12 points.

In this particular case, the winner had 7 points and the loser had 5 (which is enclosed in the parenthesis).

  4. it's the number of points of the loser of the tiebreak. this means Serena won the tiebreak 7-5.

btw, the match ended with a double fault from Zheng, grrrrrr!

  5. The number in parentheses represents the losing opponents score in the breaker for example Serena won today 7-5 in the breaker which means Zheng got (5) points. They give this number  because they assume that as tennis fans we know you need to win a breaker by 2 points, therefore its easy to find the result for the tiebreaker.

  6. it is the amount of points the losing player in that set had in the tie breaker.

  7. Tie Break Point ..

    Or

    7 - 6 = 7 - 5..

    to make it synchronized

  8. It represents the point total of the loser in the tiebreak. In this case, Zheng had 5 points in the tiebreak and Serena had 7.

  9. if I remember correctly, it was the loosing player's score in the tiebreak. Add two (which you have to win by) and you get the winner's score
