Clue: a water hose is attached to it, so I know that coolant/water flows through it.

Need to know, because I have a coolant leak. It is coming from this thing. There is a small hole in the top and a small hole in the bottom. The hole in the bottom lets coolant out. The holes look like maybe a long single bolt went through them, and the leak started because the bolt rattled out.

  1. the small hole in the bottom of the water pump is to tell you that the pump needs replaced, when the fluid comes out the bearing in the pump is bad....

  2. Dude.. your water pump is crapping, the seal is leaking coolant into the brg pocket and out that hole, which is commonly called the "WEEP" hole. a NEW pump will cost you $35-$55, not a tuff job for a do-it-yourself guy, should take a cpl hrs.

  3. That is the waterpump and the hole is a weep hole.. easy to replace. A good website for 73-87 Chevy trucks is http://www.73-87chevytrucks.org
