  1. VV is vertical visibility followed by a three-digit height in hundreds of feet. IE. VV001 means vertical visibility vis  is 100'

VV///" means indefinite ceiling, height not available

  2. Technically:  Vertical Visibility Undefined.

The machine can't figure out what it is because there is no cloud surface to reflect the sensing laser back.  It generally can be interpreted as zero vertical visibility.

  3. What he said, yea. It's vertical visibility in hundreds of feet. But the fact that it's got 3 slashes /// there after the VV makes me think that the vertical visibility is missing or not available in this report. But also, I don't think VV is part of a TAF anyways. Sure, you'll find VV on a METAR, but how the heck are you going to "forecast" a vertical visibility in a TAF?

  4. The /// at the end of the vertical visibility actually means "state of sky obscurred". This means that the visibility is so poor that it is impossible to determine the cloud base.

  5. what he said..
