Wouldn't be benificial to reduce speed limits nationwide to lets say 60 miles per hour? I know thats not going to be very popular but a sacrafice for our childrens future. It would also reduce our consumption of oil.At least until we have a better alternative.

  1. Jimmy Carter reduced the speed limit to 55 during his presidency.

During World War II, the national speed limit was 40 MPH, and gas was rationed so no one got more than 5 gallons a week.

I think reduced speed limits would be popular with anyone who rides a bike (bicycle or motorcycle).

  2. No, it won't work, people won't drive that slow.

  3. Yes, in fact there's no reason to have the speed limits at 65+ mph.  Reducing the speed limit would not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but it would also save lives and conserve gasoline, the latter being the reason the speed limit used to be 55 mph.

All that and all we need to do is add a few minutes to our commutes.  Sounds good to me.

  4. its a good idea and does sound well.., what about Car pool and leaving the car one day free out of a week.., the ration of 5 gallons is also a great idea..
