In an estimate, how much is it to ride in a taxi for an hour?

I know that for each city it's different, but i'm sure the rates aren't THAT much different. I live around boston by the way, but not in the actual city.

  1. Most Taxis charge by the mile (or any fractions thereof). If they charged by "time", no one could afford to get stuck in traffic. They DO charge a "wait" time if you call one and they get there before you come out to get into it, but that's sitting still, and once you're in and moving, it's mileage.


  2. The meters on all cabs automatically switch over to the "hourly rate" as the vehicle is stopped, even at a stoplight. That's why the distance between two points is only an estimate of the total charge. On the side of the cab you will see the hourly rate that particular company charges.
