  1. It is purely logical. Except humans all other animals have more females than male and hence the female has to call and attract the male for mating. It was like that in humans also but indiscriminate population explosion and many female infanticide  in countries like India has contributed to less and less women so that men have to go after women. Also the social and economic conditions of our present society also make women to depend on men and society for support and had to restrict the birth of children.

The third thing is that there is no natural enemy or death for humans threatening their population unlike other animals or marine creatures where there is always a natural enemy to control the population.

  2. I thought all female species whether animal or human allured male species for procreation.

  3. life exists to procreate, so the s*x drive exists in all life forms.

  4. Yes, sexual selection, as it is termed, occurs in almost all animals.  It is much more efficient, and thus fit, to attract and choose the best mates than to indiscriminately mate with anything.  In general however, females are more choosy than males, due to their reproductive strategy which requires a relatively large investment in fewer offspring.  That is, males are the ones who have to spend more time attracting females (this is really no different in humans on average).  Only in plant-like animals - sessile anemones for example is sexual selection rather limited.

Sexual selection is particularly well studied in birds.  But there are also examples from everything from insects, flies, fish, worms, mammals, amphibians, to reptiles.

Rajan is completely wrong about s*x ratio.  s*x ratio tends to be 1:1 in all species based on Fisher's principle.  There are a few exceptions, but humans are not one of them.
