  1. The best starting phrase would probably be:

    "What news?  Be specific when asking me for a response."

    Let the questioner know that an intelligent person would not respond to generalities about reactions, affective states, changed ideas or beliefs (which are quite different concepts), or determine relevancy without knowing the specific news report being examined.
