my son is 4 1/2 and after a few attempts to do his fillings he wouldnt sit still,, the dentist wants us to book him in to a hospital to fill his 3 holes under anaestetic,, which i heard a while ago can cost around $800,, is this true?

we unfortunately have no health care concession as my husband works full time [the tax payer always suffers]

we cannot afford a bill so high as we have so many bills ect ect

do you have any idea what the cost would be on average?

another option is,, can he just wait till hes old enough to sit still at the dentists?,, hes in no great pain, just pain if he eats something real sweet, which i wont b allowing him to eat anymore anyway,, how old would he be to sit still?

thankyou,, im real stressed at the moment,, hes got a temporary filling at the moment in 2 of the holes,, the holes r all in his back teeth

  1. Oh boy, Looks like your in for a biggie. Try to get your kids into less sugary products so you won't have to be in dentists. That's what I'm doing for my little one.

  2. Hi Laura!

Yeah I think you will be looking at a bit. Blake had to have some dental work done a few years back under anaesthetic and we got a lovely bill at the end of it for over $1,000! That was a back tooth taken out as it was pushing on the others, and 3 fillings (cordial is BAD stuff!)

We couldn't claim it on medicare too! If you have private health insurance you will be able to claim it on that though, we didn't!

Our kids just drink water now!

  3. Where abouts in aust are you? My man works full time but we are still entitled to a health care card. Would your son have to go on a waiting list at all? This could give you time to save. At the Geelong Hospital, I think you can set up a payment plan. Maybe they do something like this where you are? Its worth asking. They can only say no. There's really no other way around it. I know what it's like. The taxpayers always suffer.
