  1. Lots of scientists never invent anything, and many inventors aren't scientists.  Stating an "average time" for an invention to reach fruition would be pointless.  It's so enormously variable.

    It depends entirely upon the invention.

  4. Well it can take up to five years to get a patent.  Two if you push it, but most inventors make sure they do not.

    Many inventions that actually work are the culmination of anything from two to twenty years work even before a patent is applied for.
