I'm a left fielder, from the fence I can barely throw the ball to the edge of the infield if I throw my hardest, does anyone know what I can work on at the gym to throw longer?

  1. I'm a left fielder as well :) and to make sure that I can reach my cut off from the far away distance I'm at, is that I release the ball at an upper arch to make the ball kind of go up. At the gym, just lift weights and concentrate on working your arm muscles, but don't do too much!

  2. you don't necessarily need to work out at the gym, although upper body and arm workouts will help.  just make sure you are throwing correctly.  get all of your body into the throw, don't use only your arms, and follow through on your throw.  maybe talk to a coach who knows what they're doing.

i am a centerfielder and i was having trouble making long throws too.  it turns out that i wasn't throwing correctly and i ended up with a bicep strain.

  3. The length of your arm and the speed it moves are the only two factors that determine how far you can throw, you can;t make your arm longer so you need to make your reflexes quicker.

  4. I would say to build up your arm strength with push ups, dips and lifting weights and build up your agility.  You can also just practice throwing the ball every day.
