But if you fake a shot -before- you have started dribbling, then you have as many bounces as you want after the fake.

And if you meant how many steps, that'll be 2, but it's hard after faking a shot, to walk by the defender in 2 steps without making traveling.

Just receive the make, make your fake and make it good (make them look at your face and see that all you want to do is shoot the ball), and you can actually make the fake slow, if you want them to come even closer to you... after the fake, choose your favourite side, and make 2-3 dribbles and make the lay-up or easy shot.

Are you asking "if you fake a shot, how many more times can you dribble the ball?"  

If that's your question, then 0 times.  Once you stop dribbling, you can't start dribbling again unless a defender touches the ball (that's called double-dribbling).  If you fake a shot, you stop dribbling, and the only way you can move is to pivot (one foot stationary, the other can move).  Your options at this point are to pass, shoot, or get the ball stolen from you.
