It depends what you consider close. On a nice spring or warm summer day it's a really nice walk. You could cut threw Boston Common and theres always something or someone interesting to see. At a normal pace I would say it takes a good 20 minutes. I would not suggest walking threw the common at night. Strap on come comfortable shoes or sneakers and enjoy the walk and fresh air.

I've actually walked it, but it's about a 2 - 3 Mile walk. Your best bet is hopping on a train at government center and it takes your right there in about 20 minutes. I'm pretty sure it's $2 each way for the train, but it's close. I took a cab back once when I was on a business trip, and it was about $12-15, not exactly sure which.

It's an exceptionally manageable walk and really quite pretty. If you  not to walk, you can hop on any of the Green Line trains and take it from Government Center to Copley.

it's a 1 mile walk. you just have to walk through boston common and the public gardens.

if you don't feel like walking, you can always take the T to Arlington or Copley. these will spit you out onto Boylston St.. Boylston is the next street over from Newbury.

Yes they are close to each other, with Boston City Hall to you're left facing Tremont Street, walk up to Park Street and the Boston Commons, walk through the Commons towards Boston Garden (the path is the main walking one just ask which way towards the Swan Boats) Cross Street enter Boston Garden, cross over the bridge, across the pond, as you're leaving the Garden cross and turn on Arlington Street and walk to the next corner, this Newbury Street. Maybe 20 Minutes leisurely walking.
