In boxing matches, between the rounds, what is that piece of metal that the cut man uses?

He usually scrapes the boxer's cheek, just underneath the boxer's eye, and often there's no blood. What/why does he do that?

  6. The actually object you are referring to is called an enswell. Cutmen use it to cool areas of bruising, swellings and cuts. Enswells are kept cold in ice so that when pressure applied on a person's face, it will reduce amount of swelling and blood flow to the area of needed attention.
